I have been reading some of artist Claire Gill’s blog posts about the ways she moved into painting and developing abstract landscapes. Very inspiring and so I had a go at some of the ideas she tried, many of them based on exercises in Louise Fletcher’s Find Your Joy course.
I divided up a sheet of cartridge paper with masking tape and this is my first attempt at small, imaginary landscapes all painted with a limited palette of Sap Green, Cadmium Yellow, Ultramarine Blue, white and black. Finished with a single line of oil pastel.
Then I started on an exercise of using only 11 marks on each small piece, with different tools, brushes etc. The first one was ok but I was not entirely happy with it.,
Then I tried again using direct brush sizes and consistency of paint, the variety this gave worked better and I was much happier with the result.
